Yeah, right!
The bike riders in NYC continue to fly through red lights, go the wrong way on one way streets, ride on the sidewalk, and they do not obey the picture signals designated for the bike lanes on major avenues. Good grief!
Get a load of this fiasco a few years ago when a bike rider and a taxi cab collided on the Avenue of the Americas! Look at the frustrated guy in the blue shirt and dig the guy with the red backpack riding in the incorrect direction! Yikes, do you see the woman in the orange top and dark shorts stopping and joining the tangled chaos? Look at the pedestrians gawking at the scene!
It was a mass of confusion... but I had my camera and took great advantage of the photo op! Pass the Excedrins please, Jeeves!

Villa Lewaro

In the era of Prohibition, the grandiose Italianate-style villa served as a gathering place for notable leaders of the Harlem Renaissance. Now, preservationists are looking to Harlem’s contemporary cultural vanguard to help ensure its long-term well being."

Rest in Peace, Joan Rivers
In 1994, Joan Rivers co-wrote and starred in a play about Lenny Bruce's mother, Sally Marr, and it was called "Sally Marr and Her Escorts."
My sister saw that play and later wrote a fan letter to Joan Rivers complimenting her work in that show. Several weeks later, my sister received a personal handwritten gracious reply.
It was over a decade later when I saw Joan Rivers with a small film crew in front of Bed, Bath and Beyond on the Avenue of the Americas. Pedestrians were being given the opportunity to present their opinion in a small segment with Joan about some issue that was in the news on that day.
I waited for my turn and stepped up to the plate. Joan adjusted my Greek Key necklace, which she said was "very beautiful." Then, she asked me what I do. I told her I am a retired teacher.
She went ballistic. "What do you mean you are retired," she asked me. "You are young; go back to work and keep busy and do something every day."
That is a part of Joan Rivers I will always remember. She related to me on that day not as a celebrity but as another woman who was encouraging another woman to stay productive.
That wistful memory of Joan Rivers stays with me.

Something Very Wild
The film, Something Wild, was made in 1961. It starred Carroll Baker and Ralph Meeker... and was directed by Jack Garfein.
The building which was used for the location where "Mike" lived was on Monroe Street in NYC and it is still there in 2014...
and the Manhattan Bridge was visible in this scene as Mary Ann and Mike entered the basement apartment.

The Party That Sticks With Me
One of my earliest memories is of the time when I was about 4 years old and went with my grandmother to a party in this Clara Barton School in Bordentown NJ.
I can still remember all the colorful balloons and sweet things to eat. After the party, we walked the short distance back up E. Burlington Street to my great aunt's house, which is still there.
The memory of that party so long ago still lives within me.
