I went to the Alice Austen House, on Staten Island. Clear Comfort is the childhood home of Alice Austen, one of America’s earliest and most accomplished female photographers. It was built in 1690 as a seaside cottage on the shores of New York harbor by her grandfather. During her lifetime, Alice took over 8,000 photographs that have been recognized as one of the major works capturing turn-of-the century life in America.
