at the Metropolitan Museum of Art

I went to this breathtaking exhibit today and was mesmerized by the depth and scope of the presentation. I learned a great deal, and the interesting subject matter shall remain inside me forever.

Matisse: In Search of True Painting, Press

"(Matisse) attempted to capture the essence of a light-filled room in a series of canvases painted in Nice in the winter and spring of 1917–1918:
Interior at Nice (Room at the Hôtel Beau-Rivage), The Open Window (Room at the Hôtel Beau-Rivage), and Interior with a Violin (Room at the Hôtel Beau-Rivage)

"The Matisse Exhibition at the Galerie Maeght, Paris, December 1945 "The fall and early winter of 1945 were dubbed "the season of Matisse." In October he was honored with a thirty-seven-picture retrospective at the Paris Salon d'Automne. In December six of the paintings reappeared about a mile away at the inaugural exhibition of the Galerie Maeght. Each painting was juxtaposed with large framed photographs documenting its evolution."
